Ignatian Prayer Group
Flint Parish
The Ignation Prego Group
The Prego group (Outreach Team) was formed by the Jesuits at St Beuno’s Jesuit Centre Tremeirchion, St Asaph.
Various groups are spread all over the diocese and there are many lay prayer guides who share in their spiritual journey.
St Ignatious, the founder of the Jesuits, was born at the family castle of Loyola in the Basque country. His family were rich and as a young man Ignatious lived life to the full. Being ambitious he wanted to become the best in whatever he did.
From 1517 – 1525 he fought many battles during that period and received a serious leg wound. While recuperating he became rather bored until a relative of his gave him 2 books to read:- The Life of Christ and The lives of the Saints. While reading these books his real conversion began and his deeper love of Jesus grew from then on.
He disposed of his rich worldly goods and started to share his insights into the Christian way of life with his friends. Ignatious had a deep capacity for friendship so his heart to heart relationships with God was truly personal since he believed that God is present in all things and situations.
Down through the years Ignatious’ spirituality of love and praying through the scriptures has helped hundreds of people deepen their life of prayer and relationship with God. Like St Ignatious some have come to say “I want and I choose what better leads to God deepening his life in me.
The outreach team first came to Flint in 1980 the year our Mother died. My gratitude knows no bounds and I looked on it as a great blessing. The prayer guides held a week of guided prayer following later by the spiritual exercises and over the years half days of prayer. Over the years we have been privileged to walk with many friends who have genuinely deepened our lives and theirs by praying and contemplating the scriptures and the life of Christ and many notice more easily God’s provident action in simple things.
We have our prayer meetings on the 1st Thursday of the month at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at 6.00pm. All are welcome.
As Pope Francis says “the joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus.” With Christ, Joy is constantly born anew.
Glory be to the Father, son and Holy Spirit.
