CRAFT GROUP
New Sacramental Banners
Following on from the success of the 2 Altar banners at Easter (' I am the vine, you are the branches'), which were created by Ann Winston and Kate Dooley using an appliqué technique, Fr Adrian asked the Craft Group to make seven sacramental banners. Christine Burton took up this challenge and individually designed and completed the banners. Christine painted her designs in watercolours at first, basing them on the shape of the windows in our Church, then transferred her design to fabric, using a stained glass patchwork technique to make the banners. Christine's designs used a range of high quality cotton fabrics, funded by the Craft Group, and also incorporated material from old Parish vestments no longer in use. This labour of love took seven months to complete and the finished banners are undeniably stunning! Christine said she really enjoyed the process and hopes everyone else will get pleasure from them as well. Fr Adrian is also delighted with the work and the banners will shortly be displayed in our Church. Other projects that the Craft Group are currently involved with include making knitted, crocheted and patchwork blankets for the Linus Project (for sick and disadvantaged children) and creating Christmas gifts and items for sale to the Parish later in the year. The group is also available to take on small commissions ( eg baby clothes and blankets, home furnishings etc). |

Our intention is to make crafts to help with Church Funds, to teach and learn new skills and definitely to be joyous!
The crafts we enjoy are knitting, sewing, crocheting, patchwork, embroidery, toy making - but we’re happy to try any new crafts!
We’ve made items for Summer and Winter Fairs such as cushions, blankets, scarves, aprons, door stops, children’s dresses, dolls...and much much more!
We’ve also made First Communion dresses and veils, a new Altar cloth for St Mary’s School and the Easter banners for the Church Altar. Our latest Group project, just started, is to make 7 new sacramental banners.
New members are always welcome - pop along on a Thursday to see if you’d like to join in - you can bring your own projects or join in with some of ours.
